Post-CPAP me.

This is a supplementary post.  I’ve started CPAP therapy lately and I think it’s important that I include it in this strange, rambling tome.

I don’t know what the eventual value of this will be, if any but I’m satisfied with any amount of useful self-reflection it triggers.  I imagine Isaac stumbling onto it later in life and perhaps gaining some insite into the hairy-brained inner world of his weird old man.  (“Hi, Buddy!”)

I’m also interested in documenting the journey towards some realization of personal freedom.   Like a prisoner to chaos, I have a spoon in my right hand and I am painstakingly tunneling towards something better; one scoop at a time.

Jordon Peterson has been dominating my thoughts lately (Thank you Greg Simpson).  It has been empowering in very very practical and actionable ways.  Improve something today.  Do something that the tomorrow version of you will thank you for.  Convert some of the potential of formless chaos into something of tangible value, some kind of habitable value.  If this is a mysterious concept to you read “12 Rules for Life” SLOOOOOWLY, RESPECTFULLY and CAREFULLY (and REPEATEDLY).

Any-hoo, here the CPAP Diary catchup for the last, uh… 14 days?

THE CPAP DIARY

Thursday 25th of May night after the meeting I started using the CPAP.   I started about midnight and got 6 hours sleep and felt uncommonly focused and energetic the whole day.  auspicious start.

Friday – Saturday 26th night I did a little better with a 7 hours of sleep.  this night was captured by the analysis software.  Again, got up very early (for me) and got alot of work done in the morning before service. In the afternoon I had to nap.  I have to get used to my circadian rythms changing and also the cost of pushing myself harder than usual becuase of being so excited about my life, energy, etc.

Back to the sleep clinic tonight for a CPAP + Sleep Study.

Saturday – Sunday (27th) – Sleeping at the clinic.  Fairly uncomfortable experience piled un the unfamiliar feeling of the CPAP.  Slept, say 6 hours?  Got up at 4, could sleep anymore and they unhooked me so I could go home.   Worked, took the day off from the meeting.  Jenny and Isaac were up really late (3AM) with their own home-projects and they slept most of the day.  Set up my VOIP + World class voicemail to email service.  Worked on a process flow document for designing our total quality and stability plan.  Went to the movies with Josh and saw Solo.  Fell asleep at the movies for 10 minutes.  Had beer and french fries for dinner…  Finished watching Alias Grace with Jenny.  This form of entertainment is enjoyable for her, but I need to be able to connect with her emotionally without cheap entertainment being the medium.

Sunday – Monday May 28th 2018 –

Bed (Sunday)  at 11, awkward sleep woke at 6:30 without the alarm.  A bad nights sleep on a CPAP is still MUCH BETTER than a great night sleep without.  I don’t feel foggy this morning, but I do feel a little rung out.  Two happy faces on the CPAP machine this morning, There was alot of upper leakage on the mask in the night (I think).  Very interested in the stats.  It seems to take a few hours for data to come through.  I *think* I’ve got a follow-up appointment at 11… need to verify

Monday to Tuesday, May 29th

Got to bed around 11.  Slept solidly, although I had a very painful gout flare up in progress. I increased my humidity to 6-7, I think before bed. Woke at 5am to the sound of my mask making a popping sound.   I got up, cleaned it and puttered around the house.  Went back to bed around 6:30, rose at 8.  I feel a decrease in motivation today but I have been moving through the tasks I’m targeting to complete for the week.

Tuesday to Wednesday Morning, May 30th

I’ve linked the popping sound from yesterday to excessive moisture in the mask.  I experienced in the early morning hours (I hate to look at the time now…) and I got up and dried out the inside of the mask.  As of this morning, I’ve reduced the humidity.  After 7 hours on the machine, I permitted myself the giddy pleasure of laying in bed for an hour without it before getting up at 6 to help Jenny clean the house.  I feel ok I guess, despite persistent gout.  The gout is quite a bit better this morning.   Apparently, I scored a 97 on the CPAP system.

Wednesday to Thursday Morning May 31st

I felt tired all day yesterday and wen to be at about 11.  Slept for 9.5 hours and the mask didn’t feel like I was wearing it at all.  I have good concentration today but not great.  my gout flare up that has been an 7/10 is down to a 3/10.  Performed my full CPAP cleaning this morning as soon as I got up.  Oh right, I almost forgot.  I got up at 5am to clean out some water out of the mask since it was causing that popping sound.  I am happy to report that I can get perfect connection and suction on the mask by releasing the chin straps together and then retightening them together while centering the mask on my nose and face.

Friday to Saturday Morning (June 2)

Gout is much better.  Yesterday I got serious about drinking water regularly.  I am expanding this diary to include a record of my other key control points in life that contribute to an overall LOWERING OF CHAOS.

Energy and Aliveness: Good nights sleep – I want to asy 7 hours, but my sleep data is still pending from the app.  Glass of Water (Large), Took my current pill stack (niacin, b100, lithium orotate, kelp, ) a teaspoon of MCT oil….   Though I was discouraged by our miscommunication about the service group being at the hall, it was a decent morning and i’m still fairly energetic right now, though hungry.

Saturday to Sunday(June 3rd)

8.5 hours of sleep and a AIR score of 99.  Took my stack of pills the same as yesterday.  Gout was a 4/10 until I smacked my foot on something – raised to an excruciating 7…  Meeting, back home, very clear headed, but hungry and some physically  tired.  WHAT ABOUT MITOCONRIAL SUPPORT…

Sunday to Monday June 4rth

Woke up at 3:45 with alot of condensation in my mask.  The bedroom was very cold.  I cleaned the mask to let it dry and went back to bed around 6AM.     Woke up at 9ish.  Really enjoyed cocooning myself in the bed under heavy blankets without fear of suffocation.  Like a scuba diver in a sea of blankets.  Felt rested by foggy until I had MCT & pill stack and kick started myself a bit with coffee…   The gout is basically gone today.  Got my license renewed, etested the van, paid my ticket…  got the dog vaccinated… somehow this innocuous list of errands exhausted me.  Looking forward to a perfect night’s sleep.

Monday to Tuesday June 5th…

Great nights sleep.  Did a colossal pile of dishes, tried a new gluten-free cereal for breakfast (sunrise?)

Tuesday to Monday, June 6th

Had a good night sleep (6 hours, 1-7) and rose to do a small pile of dishes.  I feel…  ok but on the verge of tired.  Reasonable amounts of concentration.  Scored 80-something on my Air App.
