Yes friends this is the last Blog of the millenium. By now you should have had all the reasons why 2001 is the first year of the new millenium explained in painstaking detail by the steakhouses and hotels who are flogging the New Years extravaganzas. If by some inexplicable fluke you have not had this made clear to you, you can read my article of last December’s Monitor, which discusses the phenomena at some length. Named by Glenn at Monitor. I liked his title better than mine.

Read: 2000: Not the millenium, but a nice round number.

Rabbit and I are holed up at Fifth Lake near Tamworth and it looks like we will be here when 2001 hits. While no one really expects anything significant to happen the way we did last year, wouldn’t it be funny if something did?

Last year Rabbit and I treated the coming of the New Year with a complete lack of ceremony. I have NO personal hang-ups related to the passing of birthdays but I have always had a kind of anticlimactic let down feeling that creeps up on me at the approach of a New Year. Kind of like an uber-Firday. (I’ve never had much luck with Fridays). Last year we both went to bed early and slept late. Rabbit has no memory of this and it’s little wonder.

I have crept away from the festivities for as long as I can spare. Upstairs they are having a kind of board-game-o-rama. Rabbit’s little sister has brought every board game she owns and all Rabbit’s brother wants to do is play some bridge. It’s funny. Makes me wonder what my folks are doing right now. Dad is probably at some gathering with his in laws (second marriage) and Mom is probably raking in time-and-a-half at the nursing home she works at.

Well I finally got up the nerve to buy the “Alien Legacy” box set and we watched three of the five videos from the series (number five is a making of on the first film) this afternoon. Aliens has some extra footage where you actually get to see the LV-426 crowd before the aliens start attacking. Amazing. I just discovered that lv426.com is registered AND an active web site. I’m a big Alien fan. I just finished reading “music of the spheres”, which sucked. I am in a bad way with books these days. I am in the middle of reading “Phule me twice” and it is exactly the heart-pounding page-turner I thought it would be. Ugh. It’s the kind of book that should have stayed a grove of trees. Maybe I’ll plow through the rest of the Kurt Vonnegut I haven’t read yet. So far I’ve read Welcome to the Monkey House, Breakfast of Champions, The Sirens of Titan and Hocus Pocus.
